Who owns the internet?
How internet works? Is one of the questions for which people are consurned about. But before moving further do you know, what is internet? The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks connecting millions of devices. It’s a decentralized network which work on a set of rules called as Internet protocol.
So now you know what is internet but the questions remains the same. Who owns the internet? The money you pay to your ISP (INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER) for you data packs.
So if they charge you money and gives you internet service so, do they own internet? No, they don't. As internet works on fiber optic cable or submarine cable which help to connect one region to another. And this cables are very costly and need huge amount of money for implementation.
So this has three different levels. Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3.tier 1 networks, is formed by fibre optic cables or submarine cables that have been laid by large telecommunication companies which exchange data directly with each other through peering agreements. Tier 2 and tier 3 networks purchase Internet transit from tier 1 networks to make it available to users downstream.
So the money you pay to your ISP is like a rent. For example, if you are using someone's house you'll be paying rent for it. It is as simple as that your ISP invest their money as tier 1 in fiber optic cables and provide you internet or your ISP purchase internet from tier 1 and sells to you. So The Money you pay to your ISP for internet because they had invested their money for you or purchased internet for you.
So here is your answer that no one owns the internet. It works as the companies invest their money and provide you internet, this works same in various parts of world.
